Solidarity with US AID

The United States Agency for International Development is in the ‘wood chipper’ because the almost trillionaire, Elon Musk, is trying to save money (and for whom?). His plan is to make the globally relevant USAID go from 10,000 people to 600. Freezing shipments of food, programs, and activities all around the world. This tiny part of our US budget is actually meaningful to millions of people. Yes, we should all question all uses of power, but soft power seems far more sensible than other forms of engagement (including this cruel dis-engagement).

All people are entitled to a decent way of life.

Here are just a few ways we would’ve spent $40M:

🏈Purchased life-saving HIV treatment from American pharmaceutical companies to keep 1,060,000 million people alive for one year

🏈Bought 230,000 tons of wheat and 29,000 tons of corn, peas, and vegetable oil from American farmers to feed hungry people around the world, reducing the need for mass migration

🏈Slowed the flow of migrants to our borders by providing job training to 50,000 people in Central America

🏈Protected 30,000,000 football fields of tropical forest in Africa, preventing China and Russia from exploiting timber and critical minerals that fuel our world

🏈Shipped the 29,000 metric tons of American grown food on American ships instead of leaving it to rot in a warehouse in Houston, TX

🏈Saved the lives of 25 million children suffering from severe malaria. We think this one has value on its own but maybe Musk would disagree

This Super Bowl Sunday, tell Congress to #saveforeignaid and #standwithUSAID
